These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of reptilewise.com (the "Site"), operated by ReptileWise ("we", "us", "our"). By accessing the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1. What this Site is for

ReptileWise publishes educational content about reptile husbandry — species profiles, care guides, equipment buyer's guides, and interactive calculators. The Site is a reference, not a substitute for professional advice (see Section 2).

2. Veterinary and medical disclaimer

Our health content is for general information only. We describe signs, symptoms, and when to seek professional help. We do not diagnose, prescribe, or tell you how to treat a sick animal.

Reptiles hide illness well and decline quickly. A symptom that looks minor can be an emergency. If your animal is off food, lethargic, breathing with an open mouth, producing abnormal stool, or showing any sign that concerns you, contact a qualified reptile veterinarian immediately — do not wait for a website to tell you what to do. We explicitly disclaim any liability for harm to an animal resulting from following our content in place of veterinary care.

3. Affiliate disclosure (FTC)

In accordance with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission guidelines on the use of endorsements and testimonials in advertising, we disclose the following:

  • ReptileWise is a participant in the Amazon Associates Program.
  • Many of the product links on this Site are affiliate links. If you click one and make a qualifying purchase on Amazon, we earn a commission at no additional cost to you.
  • Our recommendations are based on husbandry standards and product categories appropriate for the species, not on which product pays the highest commission. We routinely recommend products we believe are correct for the animal even when alternatives would earn more.
  • Prices, availability, and product specifications are set by Amazon and the seller — we do not control them. Always verify the current price and details on Amazon before purchasing.

We do not publish paid "Top 10 Best" lists, sponsored reviews, or brand-vs-brand rankings. When a brand is mentioned, it is because the product category is relevant to the species or the problem — not because the brand paid for placement.

4. Equipment and safety

Heating equipment, thermostats, UVB fixtures, and enclosures involve real-world hazards: thermal burns, electrical fire, and UV exposure. Follow manufacturer instructions, use a thermostat on any regulated heat source, and do not leave animals unattended near newly installed equipment. We are not liable for damage or injury resulting from equipment you choose or install based on our guidance.

5. External links

We link to external authorities (ReptiFiles, FBH, Arcadia, Exo Terra, research papers) so you can verify our claims. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or privacy practices.

6. Intellectual property

Original content on this Site — text, calculators, data tables, and code — is © 2026 ReptileWise unless otherwise stated. You may not republish full articles or reproduce our tools without written permission. Short excerpts with attribution and a link back are fine.

Product names, brands, and trademarks mentioned are the property of their respective owners and are used here for identification and review purposes only.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Scrape, mirror, or republish substantial portions of the Site without permission.
  • Attempt to disrupt, overload, or gain unauthorized access to the Site or its underlying systems.
  • Use the Site for any unlawful purpose or in a way that could damage the Site or impair others' use.

8. Limitation of liability

The Site and all content are provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law, ReptileWise and its contributors shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages — including harm to an animal, loss of equipment, or cost of veterinary care — arising from your use of or reliance on the Site.

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
